Bindadin Maharaj :
His original name was Vrindawan Prasad .Bindadin Maharaj was born in 1830. He was the originator of Lucknow Gharana. He was born in Handia Tehsil in Allahabad district, where his father Durga Prasad used to live. Bindadin Maharaj had no children and he gave the utmost training to his nephew Acchan Maharaj. Bindadin in his own turn, was trained by his father and uncle Thakur Prasad.
Pandit Birju Maharaj :
Brijmo Mishra popularly known as Pandit Birju Maharaj (born February 4, 1938) is currently the leading exponent of the Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin gharana of Kathak dance in India.He is a descendant of the legendary Maharaj family of Kathak dancers, including his two uncles, Shambhu Maharaj and Lachhu Maharaj, and his father and guru, Acchan Maharaj. Even though dancing is his first love, he also has an excellent command over Hindustani classical music and is an accomplished vocalist as well.
Lachhu Maharaj :
Lachhu Maharaj (1901-1978) was an Indian dancer. He came from a family of illustrious Kathak exponents in Lucknow. He received extensive training from Pandit Bindadin Maharaj, his uncle and the court dancer of the Nawab of Awadh, for nearly ten years. He also learnt the Pakhawaj, the Tabla and Hindustani Classical vocal music. Lachhu Maharaj was acclaimed for the choreography of dance sequences in movies like Mahal, Mughal-e-Azam and Pakeezah as well as his ballets like Goutam Buddha, Chandravali and Bharatiya Kissan. He was also the founder Director of the Kathak Kendra started by the Uttar Pradesh Government in Lucknow.
Sitara Devi :
Sitara Devi (born early 1920s on a Diwali day) is an eminent Indian dancer of the classical Kathak style of dancing. Sitara Devi was born in Kolkata (then Calcutta) on the eve of the Indian festival of Dipavali, and her exact year of birth is not known. Being born around Dipavali, she was named Dhanalakshmi (nicknamed Dhanno), an epithet of goddess Lakshmi who is worshipped especially during Dipawali.
Shambhu Maharaj :
Pandit Shambhu Maharaj (1910 – November 4, 1970) was a celebrated Guru of the Lucknow Gharana (school) of the Indian classical dance form, Kathak. He was born in Lucknow. His actual name is Shambhunath Mishra. He was the youngest son of Kalka Prasad Maharaj. He received his training from his father, uncle Bindadin Maharaj and his eldest brother Achchan Maharaj, and also had another elder brother Lacchu Maharaj. He learned Hindustani classical music from Ustad Rahimuddin Khan.
